On August 21st 2012 18 year old Tony Farmer, a former high school basketball star was sentenced to three years in prison. Sometime in April 2011, Farmer was caught on tape assaulting his ex girlfriend Andrea Lane in the parking lot and lobby of her apartment complex. Part of the footage shows Tony dragging Ms. Lane around by her hair. A grand jury indicted Farmer on charges of kidnapping, felonious assault and robbery. After being charged Tony Farmer was also charged with Intimidation for sending threatening phone calls and text messages to Ms. Lane.
Mr. Farmer was ranked among the top 100 high school basketball players in the country. He was/is being sought after by various colleges. Some of the colleges were even willing to wait to see what would become of Mr. Farmer's court case before removing offers off the table for him to attend their college.
Tony Farmer was offered a plea deal which would have left him serving two to eight years, but he turned that down. In turning down this plea deal Farmer's attorney thought that pleading guilty to all four charges he would be able to ask the prosecuting attorney for Probation for Mr. Farmer. The Prosecuting attorney was willing to give Farmer probation, but noted that the judge would more than likely sentence Tony to some prison time. It should also be noted that Andrea Lane and her family were expected to ask the sentencing judge for leniency on Mr. Farmer.
Check out this video of Tony Farmer fainting as the judge reads off his sentencing for each charge.... Farmer was adding the years up as the judge read them off. He must of thought that he was serving his years consecutively, but turns out they were concurrent.
